About Me

In 2014, I joined the College of Business Administration at Marquette University as an Assistant Professor of Marketing having after receiving my PhD and MBA at the University of Tennessee – Knoxville. My earlier academic studies were in music, having earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Theory and Composition from the University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music and Masters studies in Music Composition at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Prior to joining academia, Brian spent the previous twelve years working as an Internet marketing executive, a Silicon Valley IT manager, and an award-winning marketing creative director focused on using technology to connect with customers and increase the bottom line.

My research focuses on the intersection of consumer behavior, technology, and retailing. Specifically, my research examines the impact of mobile devices and technology-based self-service in the retail environment and I also have a keen interest in consumer collecting behavior. My work has been published in many marketing and technology journals including Research Policy, Psychology & Marketing, Journal of Organizational Computing and Electronic Commerce, Service Industries Journal, Journal of Consumer Marketing, Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice, and International Review of Retailing, Distribution and Consumer Research.

When not in my office or the classroom at Marquette doing marketing professor things, you’ll likely find me in my home studio rekindling my love for music or enjoying everything Milwaukee has to offer with my wife, Jennifer, and kids, Nick and Katie.
